DIY Enthusiasts: Helpful tips when hanging your wallpaper

  1. Make sure the walls are clean and have no holes or cracks.
  2. Fill in any holes or cracks with polyfilla.
  3. Switch off plugs.
  4. Make the wall smooth by sanding the area filled with polyfilla.
  5. Should your wall have a glossy look [enamel paint] or finish to the wall, it must be sanded down to a rougher surface.
  6.  It's a good idea to sand down the walls even if wallpapered to insure removal of any imperfections.
  7. Remove any light fittings, outlet covers, switch plates, curtain railings and any objects that would obstruct your application area.
  8. Wipe the walls with a wet cloth to remove any dust created from sanding and allow the wall to dry thoroughly.

Applying the wallpaper

Start from one side of the wall by measuring your panel lines and marking them with a pencil at the top and bottom of the wall.   Pre-printed panels will be marked in numbers and starting with your first panel lay it upside down on a large flat table or flat surface.

Take your pre-mixed wall paper glue and by using a paint brush, start applying the glue onto the panels lightly and gently until all the paper is covered.

Lift the panel carefully and place the top of the paper panel on the marked spots at the top of the wall.  When placing the paper onto the wall be careful not to stretch or tear the paper.  Start smoothing out the panels working from the top to the bottom by pressing it down to get the excess paste and air bubbles out from underneath the panels, until the panel is smooth in place.

Immediately remove any glue or paste that appears with a clean cloth.  If a bubble appears that won't smooth, poke it with a pin before it dries and gently work the air out through the pin hole.

Repeat the above process until all the panels are in place.
Replace light fittings, outlet covers, switch plates, curtain railings and any objects that were removed.
Leave the wallpaper for at least 48 hours to completely dry before trimming any excess paper along the bottom or in the corners with a sharp knife or printers tool.

Please note: We will not be held responsible should the walls not be smooth, plastered or rhinolite.
